Speedway Motorsports Announces Record Attendance At Charlotte Motor Speedway's UAW-GM Quality 500CONCORD, N.C., Oct. 14 -- With more than 200,000 people passing through the gates of Charlotte Motor Speedway during UAW-GM Quality 500 and All Pro Bumper to Bumper 300 week, Speedway Motorsports, Inc. recorded a record fall NASCAR event week. The new Diamond Tower Terrace provided approximately 25,000 additional seats for the UAW-GM Quality 500 -- all of which were sold. Spectators were treated to an alien invasion, plenty of explosions and side-by-side racing from race winner Dale Jarrett, Dale Earnhardt, Mark Martin, Jeff Gordon and Bobby Labonte. "We have generated consistent growth at Charlotte Motor Speedway and at our other speedways by pursuing our primary growth strategy of expanding and improving our existing facilities," stated H.A. Wheeler, chief operating officer and president of Speedway Motorsports and general manager of Charlotte Motor Speedway. "By the end of 1997, Speedway Motorsports will have added approximately 236,000 seats. These new fans will increase our admissions and will help to increase our event-related revenues such as concessions and souvenirs."
