Speedway Motorsports Announces Record Attendance At Charlotte Motor Speedway's UAW-GM Quality 500

CONCORD, N.C., Oct. 14 -- With more than 200,000 people
passing through the gates of Charlotte Motor Speedway during UAW-GM Quality
500 and All Pro Bumper to Bumper 300 week, Speedway Motorsports, Inc.
recorded a record fall NASCAR event week.
The new Diamond Tower Terrace provided approximately 25,000 additional
seats for the UAW-GM Quality 500 -- all of which were sold. Spectators were
treated to an alien invasion, plenty of explosions and side-by-side racing
from race winner Dale Jarrett, Dale Earnhardt, Mark Martin, Jeff Gordon and
Bobby Labonte.
"We have generated consistent growth at Charlotte Motor Speedway and at
our other speedways by pursuing our primary growth strategy of expanding
and improving our existing facilities," stated H.A. Wheeler, chief operating
officer and president of Speedway Motorsports and general manager of Charlotte
Motor Speedway. "By the end of 1997, Speedway Motorsports will have added
approximately 236,000 seats. These new fans will increase our admissions and
will help to increase our event-related revenues such as concessions and
souvenirs."
Speedway Motorsports, the owner and operator of Atlanta, Bristol,
Charlotte and Texas Motor Speedways and 600 Racing, Inc. and the operator of
Sears Point Raceway, is a leading marketer and promoter of motorsports
entertainment in the United States.
