Ford Sells Two Million Trucks In Record Time
24 November 1997
Two Million Ford Trucks In Record TimeDETROIT, Nov. 24 -- Customers lifted Ford Motor Company's 1997 U.S. truck sales past the two million sales mark today, the earliest date that any company has reached that milestone. In 1995, Ford became the first company in history to sell two million trucks in a calendar year, and then surpassed that performance in 1996 with an industry sales record of 2,150,575. Ford will set a new industry record in 1997. "Little wonder that Ford's two millionth truck this year was an F-Series pickup," said Bob Rewey, Ford's group vice president for marketing, sales, and service. "After all, the F-Series has been the bedrock of the Ford Division franchise for the last 50 years." In 1997, the F-Series will be America's best selling vehicle, car or truck, for the 16th consecutive year and America's best-selling truck for the 21st consecutive year. Since it was introduced in 1948, customers have purchased more than 26 million F-Series pickups worldwide, making it the best selling nameplate in automotive history. Next year, "Built Ford Tough" gets an exclamation point when an all-new SuperDuty pickup joins the F-Series lineup. Job #1 for the new truck will roll off the line at the Kentucky Truck Plant in Louisville in January. Ford is the world's leading truck manufacturer and each of its products -- pickups, vans, and sport utility vehicles -- is at or near the top of its class in product quality, safety, value, and sales.
