Subaru Celebrates Best November Sales Month in 10 Years

    CHERRY HILL, N.J., Dec. 2 -- Subaru of America, Inc. (SOA)
today announced its November sales figures -- the best November since 1987.
Subaru recorded a sales total of 12,899 units -- up 17 percent over the same
period in 1996.  Year-to-date 1997 retail sales of 114,340 units already
surpass 1996 year-end retail sales totals of 112,539 -- making 1997 the best
retail sales year since 1988.
    The Legacy model line led sales with 8,570 units posted.  The Outback
accounted for 5,303 units of the Legacy line-up -- making November the third
consecutive month that Outback surpassed 5,000 units.  Forester, the company's
all-new passenger car-based sport utility vehicle, introduced in July 1997,
posted 2,576 units.
    Subaru of America, Inc. is a wholly owned subsidiary of Fuji Heavy
Industries Ltd. of Japan.  Headquartered near Philadelphia, the company
markets and distributes Subaru vehicles, parts and accessories through a
network of nearly 630 franchised dealers across the United States.  All Legacy
models sold in the U.S., including the Outback, are produced at the company's
American manufacturing plant, Subaru-Isuzu Automotive, Inc., near Lafayette,
Ind.
