Toyota Reports November Sales

TORRANCE, Calif., Dec. 2 -- Toyota Motor Sales (TMS), U.S.A.,
Inc., today announced total vehicle sales for November of 85,663, down 10.1
percent from last year's strong November performance. On a year-to-date
basis, the sale of 1,113,527 units represents an increase of 4.1 percent.
"Industry sales continue to mirror the economy's growth, boosted in
particular by sustained consumer confidence," said Yale Gieszl, TMS executive
vice president. "In this environment, our problem has been a shortage of
product, especially core products, such as Camry and 4Runner."
The 4Runner led Toyota's truck and sport-utility vehicle (SUV) sales and
posted its best November ever. The popular SUV recorded sales of 9,463, up
nine percent over last year, with year-to-date sales of 117,684, up 31.1
percent over last year. RAV4 also shared the spotlight with record-setting
November sales of 5,323, up 4.2 percent, with year-to-date sales of 61,618,
representing an increase of 20 percent.
The all-new Toyota Sienna minivan established a new benchmark in November
for Toyota's passenger van class with sales of 4,794 units.
Camry sales continue to lead Toyota's passenger car segment with year-to-
date sales of 352,902, up 5.8 percent. Due to short supply, November Camry
sales were down 22.5 percent at 23,530 units. The redesigned Corolla also
marked a solid month with sales of 14,809 units, and year-to-date sales of
202,210 units, up 4.8 percent from last year.
The Lexus Division posted its best-ever November with sales of 8,734
units, up 11.5 percent. The all-new GS luxury sport sedan took the market by
storm with GS 300 sales of 1,295 units, a 921.9 percent increase over the same
period last year, and GS 400 sales of 1,240.
Toyota's North American-produced (NAP) vehicles represented 60.3 percent
of November's sales. On a year-to-date basis, NAP vehicles represent 61.6
percent of sales, up 1.2 percentage points from the previous year.
There were 24 selling days in November, compared to 25 last year.
