Lexus Reports Record Sales For Second Straight Month

    TORRANCE, Calif., Dec. 2 -- Lexus today reported the best
November sales month in its history with total sales of 8,734, an 11.5 percent
increase over last year.  Breaking the previous record set last year, the
luxury carmaker enjoyed record sales for the second consecutive month and
posted its fourth record-setting month of 1997.
    Year-to-date Lexus sales continued on a record pace with 88,625 units
sold, a 20.6 percent increase over last year.
    The all-new GS 400/300 sport sedan, launched in early October, continued
to show strong demand with 2,535 units sold.  The GS has sold 5,207 units in
less than two months.
    "The tremendous acceptance of the new GS 400/300 and LS 400 combined with
record-setting overall sales makes it very clear that Lexus is on a roll,"
said Jim Press, Lexus senior vice president and general manager.  "With more
new products on the horizon, Lexus is just beginning to hit its stride."
    The ES 300 sedan continued to post strong sales with 4,082 units sold.
Year-to-date ES sales total 53,736 units, a 34.8 percent increase over last
year.  The SC 400/300 Sport Coupes recorded 222 units sold.  Year-to-date
sales of the SC 300 are up 38.9 percent.  The LS 400 prestige luxury sedan
reported sales of 1,612.  The LX 450 sport utility vehicle reported 283 units
sold.
