PageNet Announces Agreement With Adaptive Vehicle Systems To Provide Innovative Remote Automotive Security System

LAS VEGAS, Jan. 8 -- PageNet announced today
at the Consumer Electronics Show that it has entered into an agreement with
Adaptive Vehicle Systems (AVS) to be a primary network provider for AVS's
remote automotive vehicle security system.
The remote security system -- currently marketed by Audiovox and other
distributors and used by more than 100,000 consumers -- enables motorists to
access their vehicles via remote keyless entry and, through PageNet's network,
provides users such features as: car-jacking protection, remote door lock and
unlock, remote ignition start, alarm and disarm and remote trunk release. All
of these commands will be communicated via PageNet's wireless messaging
network.
"When looking for the right network partnerships for the security system,
it was extremely important for us to identify and forge strong partnerships
with wireless service providers that have expansive and reliable networks and
a commitment to advanced messaging applications. With PageNet's nationwide
coverage and extensive customer service network, they are an ideal partner,"
said James Jefferies, president and CEO of Adaptive Vehicle Systems.
"AVS is providing a valuable service to its customers, and we are pleased
to provide the network services that are fundamental to this offering. The
AVS service represents one example of the many alternative uses of wireless
messaging technology," said Douglas R. Ritter, vice president of corporate
development for PageNet.
The AVS system can be upgraded via a plug-in-port device to provide
vehicle location services utilizing local cellular telephone networks to
transmit the exact global positioning satellite (GPS) coordinates of a vehicle
to assist in recovering it in the event that it is stolen. Once a vehicle's
location system has been activated, its GPS information is immediately sent to
AVS's Network Operating Center (NOC) where it is decoded and superimposed on a
map indicating the exact location of the vehicle as well as the vehicle
owner's contact information.
PageNet provides service to more than 10.2 million paging
users in the U.S. and Canada through its coast-to-coast network of sales and
service offices, resellers and affiliates. PageNet services include
alphanumeric and numeric messaging with local, regional and nationwide
coverage options. The company is the exclusive wireless provider of CNN news,
sports and stock headlines. Detailed information is available on the Internet
