Hertz Expands the Coverage of NeverLost(R), Its In-Car Navigation System to Over 50 Locations

PARK RIDGE, N.J., Jan. 12 -- The Hertz Corporation,
, the world's largest car rental company, has announced the
expansion of Hertz NeverLost(R), its in-car navigation system to over 50 Hertz
locations in 35 cities.
Hertz began offering it's in-car navigation system, Hertz NeverLost in
1995. The user-friendly route-guidance system provides turn-by-turn driving
directions to virtually any destination in each locale by means of an in-car,
four-inch video screen, with computer-generated voice prompts.
Initially, Hertz began with 600 units in its fleet and later expanded the
number of units to approximately 8,000 units in 16 major metropolitan cities.
Hertz NeverLost is now available, at 50 Hertz locations in 35 metropolitan
areas.
"We have widened the geographic availability of Hertz NeverLost by
increasing the number of cities where customers may rent a unit," declared
Robert J. Bailey, Hertz Senior Vice President. "This broader deployment of
units is a response to customer reaction and demand."
In addition, the Hertz NeverLost map database has been expanded to include
coverage in four new cities: Minneapolis, San Antonio, San Diego and St.
Louis.
Cars equipped with the Hertz NeverLost navigation system are available at
an additional $6.00 per day in mid-size cars such as the Ford Contour,
full-size cars such as the Ford Taurus, premium cars such as the Ford Crown
Victoria and luxury cars such as the Lincoln Town car. Customers may reserve
cars equipped with the Hertz NeverLost system.
Manufactured by Magellan Driver Information System, Inc., of Rochester
Hills, Michigan, Hertz NeverLost combines Global Positioning System (GPS)
satellite technology with dead-reckoning and map matching technology.
Navigation Technologies Corporation of Sunnyvale, California developed the
NavTech Navigable Map Database used in the Hertz NeverLost system.
Hertz operates a fleet of 500,000 vehicles from more than 5,000 locations
in approximately 140 countries.
