Lexus Announces Pricing for 1998 LX 470

TORRANCE, Calif., Feb. 13 -- The Lexus Division of Toyota
Motor Sales, U.S.A., Inc., today announced that the manufacturer's suggested
retail price (MSRP) for its completely re-engineered premium luxury sport
utility vehicle (SUV), the LX 470, will start at $54,950. The LX 470 comes
fully equipped, making it the best standard-equipped SUV in its class.
"When we introduced the LX 450, we called it 'King Kong in a tux,'"
commented Jim Press, Lexus senior vice president and general manager. "Now we
have the LX 470, which is still 'King Kong in a tux,' but he's more refined
and his tux is even better tailored."
Compared with the previous LX 450, overall value of the LX 470 has been
enhanced, thanks to the addition of more than 40 high-demand options and new
standard features. Therefore, on a comparably equipped basis, there is
essentially no price change verses the LX 450. With typical options, now made
standard for 1998, the 1997 LX 450's typical transaction price was
approximately $52,000.
The LX 470's long list of new standard features, which were either
optional or unavailable on the LX 450, include a powerful new 32-valve, 4.7-
liter V8 engine, derived from the LS 400 powerplant, which produces 230
horsepower and 320 pound-feet of torque. This is an increase of 18 horsepower
and 45 pound-feet of torque over the previous model's in-line six-cylinder
engine. New features to enhance the LX 470's on- and off-road capabilities
include Adaptive Variable Suspension (AVS), independent front suspension,
Adjustable Height Control suspension (AHC), locking center differential and
rear limited-slip differential.
Additional new Lexus amenities for the LX 470 include genuine wood trim,
Optitron instrumentation, separate rear-seat climate control, electric tilt-
and-telescopic steering column, memory for driver's seat, mirrors and steering
position, programmable Homelink(R) compatible garage door opener, automatic
hydrocarbon air pollution sensor with cabin filter, heated and power-
retracting outside mirrors, auto-dimming electrochromic inside and outside
rear-view mirrors, and an in-dash, single-feed six-compact disc changer. The
LX 470 also has added standard heated front seats and three auxiliary power
outlets.
The only factory option, a power tilt-and-slide moonroof, has an MSRP of
$1,270. Lexus freight and destination charges remain unchanged at $495.
The LX 470 is positioned in the premium luxury SUV segment against
competitors such as Range Rover. It provides the ultimate luxury 4x4 for
buyers seeking unquestioned off-road capability combined with the luxury and
quality for which Lexus is known. The LX 470 will be available in late March
through 174 Lexus dealers nationwide.
