TRW to Demonstrate High-Tech Vehicle Modules and Systems at SAE Congress

    DETROIT, Feb. 16 -- At the 1998 Society of Automotive
Engineers (SAE) International Congress & Exposition here next week, TRW will
showcase a broad range of integrated modules and systems that create value for
automakers by reducing cost, shortening vehicle development time and enhancing
quality.
    The new, double-deck TRW exhibit (booth #2101) will feature a presentation
of the company's advanced systems and modules -- for steering and suspension,
occupant restraints, security and convenience electronics, and engine valve
train applications -- that can be installed as single units.
    Demonstrations will show how TRW's systems integration expertise can
provide automakers with complete solutions that add value. Highlights of the
live, hands-on presentation will include:

    * Vehicle intrusion sensing and two-way communicating remote keyless entry
-- advanced technologies that offer added security by detecting an intrusion
into a vehicle and notifying the owner through a key fob;

    * Complete occupant restraint systems -- such as that developed for the
Mercedes-Benz All-Activity Vehicle, featuring driver/passenger front air bags,
driver/passenger side air bags, pyrotechnic retractor pretensioners, seat
belts with energy management, crash sensors and diagnostics;

    * Electrically Assisted Steering (EAS) systems -- a full portfolio of
ready-to-install, environmentally friendly steering modules that improve fuel
economy, safety, performance and handling, as well as reduce assembly and
development time;

    * Universal Home Access System -- a unique two-way communicating, remote
keyless entry system that enables the owner to verify vehicle, home entry door
and garage door status from afar;

    * Complete suspension chassis modules -- including front-crossmember
modules for Rover, suspension corner strut modules for Volkswagen, and rear
axle/suspension modules for the new Porsche Boxster; and

    * Integrated valve train systems -- that maximize performance and minimize
system cost and development time.

    Also among the many advanced technologies to be covered in the lively
presentation are:

    * Adaptive restraints with occupant sensing;
    * The intelligent air bag disable switch;
    * TRW's Fingerprint identification security system; and
    * Integrated steering wheel systems.
    The presentation also will stress TRW's extensive experience in systems
engineering, program management and aerospace electronics -- and how these
skills are leveraged to help automakers around the world.
