Saab Announces 1999 Saab 9-5 Pricing

Sporty sedan with long list of standard features starts at $29,995

NORCROSS, Ga., March 17 -- Saab has announced an aggressive
pricing structure for the company's new sport sedan, the 1999 Saab 9-5. For a
base price of just $29,995, customers not only get the solid performance of a
2.3L, 170hp, light-pressure turbocharged Saab engine, and the sporty feel of a
smooth five-speed manual Saab transmission, but such safety-conscious standard
equipment as next-generation front airbags, seat-mounted side airbags, and the
world-first Saab Active Head Restraint (SAHR) system. The base price of
$29,995 also includes such customer convenience features as a cooled (45
degrees) glove box, six powerful windshield wiper nozzles, an in-dash CD
player and cassette audio system, dual-zone automatic climate control, four
cupholders, double divided sunvisors, and much more.
Because of its lengthy standard equipment list, options for the Saab 9-5
base car are limited to a four-speed automatic transmission ($1,110), a power
glass sunroof ($1,110), an integrated rear child seat ($270; available in
September), and a front and rear heated seat package ($500). Customers can
also choose a leather interior package ($1,315), or opt for the industry's
first ventilated front seats, packaged with leather seats, including driver-
side memory ($1,800).
Saab will offer two additional variants with the debut of Saab's
asymmetrically turbocharged V6, available later this year. The 200hp, 3.0L
equipped Saab 9-5 V6, featuring a four-speed automatic transmission is
available for $33,750. The top-of-the-line Saab 9-5 SE, also featuring the
V6/automatic powertrain, includes a leather interior, a premium Harman-Kardon
engineered nine-speaker audio system, a Saab Car Computer that performs
multiple trip calculations, a power glass sunroof, memory/power front seats,
and more. The price for the Saab 9-5 SE is $36,800 and the 0-60 mph
performance of 7.4 seconds is included at no charge. Ventilated seats are a
$925 option, while the heated front and rear seat package is available for
$500.
The Saab 9-5 goes on sale at Saab dealerships throughout the U.S. on April
2, 1998. Pricing for the 1999 Saab 9-3 will be announced in mid-April with an
on-sale date of May 1, 1998 for Saab's new line of coupes, five-doors and
convertibles.
