Volvo Offers Earth Day Activity Plans to Science Teachers

6 April 1998

Earth Day Activity Plans For High School Science Teachers Available At www.environment.volvocars.com

ROCKLEIGH, N.J., April 6 -- Just in time for Earth Day, Volvo
introduces an educational web site entitled "Cars and Their Environmental
Impact," which can be found at http://www.environment.volvocars.com.
Colorful artwork, charts and graphs are placed throughout more than
100 pages aimed at helping illustrate basic scientific principles and key
environmental science information. The site also integrates chemistry, physics
and biology, keyed accordingly for easy access by teachers and students of
those subjects.
Ideas for individual and group learning activities are suggested, and
teachers may even print quizzes and homework assignments that can be directly
used for their classes. Parents are also encouraged to visit the site with
their children to learn together how they may reduce the environmental impact
of their family vehicles.
The text of the web site was written by Audrey Massa, assistant professor
in the department of Earth and Environmental Studies at Montclair State
University in New Jersey. A number of high school science teachers also
provided input that was instrumental in choosing appropriate material and
making the site easy to use.
"Environmental care is a core value of Volvo, and children have always
been a focus as well," remarked Helge Alten, President and CEO of Volvo Cars
of North America, Inc. "We intend that this site will help teachers raise
awareness for important issues that affect us all."
