Standard Products (Canada) Mitchell Plant Receives Chrysler Gold Pentastar Award

DEARBORN, Mich., April 23 -- Standard Products (Canada)
Limited, a subsidiary of The Standard Products Co. , announced
today that its automotive chassis parts manufacturing plant in Mitchell,
Ontario, has been awarded Chrysler Corporation's Gold Pentastar Award for
distinguished manufacturing quality and delivery excellence. The Mitchell
division manufactures rubber engine mounts, transmission mounts and suspension
torque struts for Chrysler's light trucks and sport utility vehicles, as well
as for other North American vehicle manufacturers.
Chrysler suppliers receive the award for manufacturing quality and service
delivery at or better than a rate of 100 parts per million defects. "The only
way parts makers can continue to supply Chrysler is to meet or exceed these
demands," said Jeff Hurd, a buyer with the Auburn Hills, Michigan, vehicle
maker, who presented the valued award.
For the 1999 model year, Chrysler requires suppliers to produce and ship
at 50 parts per million or better. "So far, Standard Products is on pace to
exceed the quality standards again in 1998, said Mr. Hurd.
Standard Products manufactures sealing, trim and vibration control systems
for the automotive original equipment industry in North and South America and
Europe. Its Holm Industries subsidiary produces seals for residential
refrigerators, freezers, doors and windows. Its Oliver Rubber subsidiary
manufactures tread rubber and equipment for the retread industry. Information
