Lexus Revises Certified Pre-Owned Program

Lexus Introduces Enhanced Certified Pre-Owned Program

    TORRANCE, Calif., May 4 -- Lexus, an innovator in pre-owned
vehicle marketing since 1993, introduces an all-new, redesigned Certified Pre-
Owned vehicle program effective May 1.  The new program's many enhancements
make it the most comprehensive package in the industry.
    A highlight of the new program is the revised warranty which provides
limited bumper to bumper coverage for three years from the date of purchase or
100,000 total vehicle miles.  Eligible vehicles include current year used
models through five model years with less than 60,000 miles.
    The warranty's Customer Care Package includes complimentary oil and filter
change 90 days or 5,000 mile from the date of purchase, free loaner vehicle
with qualified repairs, and Lexus 24-Hour Roadside Assistance.  The roadside
assistance program provides minor roadside repairs, towing to the nearest
Lexus dealership if necessary, a loaner car and money for lodging and meals if
the owner is away from home.  Additionally, all Certified Pre-Owned Lexus
vehicles will be eligible for Lexus Financial Services' new car rates and
terms, which are less than typical used-vehicle rates.
    A Certified Pre-Owned Lexus must pass more than 125 quality, maintenance
and appearance checks conducted by specially trained Lexus technicians.  Once
given "Lexus Certified" status, the vehicle is backed by the new Lexus
Certified Warranty and Lexus' renowned customer satisfaction efforts.
    "Purchasing a Certified Pre-owned Lexus is a better buying decision than
purchasing many new cars," commented Bryan Bergsteinsson, Lexus group vice
president and general manager.  "This revised certification program
strengthens our position as a leader in the pre-owned arena."
    Unlike any other manufacturer's pre-owned program, Lexus will have a
Lexus-specific window label used by all dealers.  This new system will provide
consistency among all Lexus dealers making it simpler for customers to shop
and compare prices.
    Customers also will have on-line access to information about Lexus
Certified Pre-Owned vehicles.  Not only can customers browse the complete
inventory of pre-owned vehicles across the country via http://www.lexus.com, they can
also make appointments on-line to visit the dealership to see a particular
Lexus.
    The extraordinary success of the Lexus Certified Pre-Owned programs is
made possible by the long-term reliability and durability of Lexus vehicles.
Among the measures of quality is the J.D. Power and Associates' Vehicle
Dependability Study, which summarizes the satisfaction of owners of five-year-
old cars with their vehicle's reliability and dealership service during the
past year.  Lexus recently earned top honors in this study again for the
fourth consecutive year, with an index of just 167.  The manufacturer has
earned the honor every year it has been eligible.  Lexus remains the only
nameplate under 200, and this year, every model in Lexus line-up scored 200 or
less.  Only one other model from a competitor met the Lexus standard with a
score of 200.
