BlueStar Battery Systems International Corp. ("BlueStar") is pleased to
announce that an agreement has been reached with the Indianapolis Motor
Speedway Corporation that names BlueStar's premium automotive battery,
"BlueStar Platinum" as the "Official Battery" of the Indianapolis Motor
Speedway, Indianapolis Racing League and the Indianapolis 500 race for the
next three years.
"This is a fantastic opportunity for BlueStar as batteries and automotive
accessories are synonymous with motor sports," says Darwin Sauer, President
and CEO of BlueStar. "With the Indianapolis 500 event as its cornerstone, the
Indy Racing League is one of North America's premier open-wheel auto racing
series. This is particularly important to BlueStar as many of its network
participants, customers and suppliers are automotive related businesses."
In addition, BlueStar is also pleased to announce that the Company will be
the primary sponsor of car No. 77, dubbed "the blue car", for the Indianapolis
500 race to be held on May 24, 1998.
Stephan Gregoire, a three-year Indy veteran, will drive the Chastain
Motorsports Indy car. The teams' Crew Chief is the renowned Darrell Soppe who
has served some of the top racing teams in Indy Racing, including Newman-Haas,
Hemelgarm and Menard. Drivers that Darrell Soppe has worked with include
Mario Andretti, Tom Sneva, Scott Brayton, amongst others.
"Stephan has a tremendous background and is currently fourth in the Indy
Racing League point standings," says Chastain Motorsports team owner, Tom
Chastain.
"The sponsorship of the car includes an in-car camera for the Indianapolis
500 race and this event is watched by over 100 million homes world-wide,"
added Darwin Sauer. "This sponsorship, amongst other many marketing
initiatives, is of particular importance to the BlueStar organization in light
of the recent strategic marketing alliance in the United States with AC Delco,
General Motors' Service Parts Operations. This further enhances our
commitment to raise the profile of the BlueStar Integrated Sourcing Network
participants and their businesses."
BlueStar is a developer, specialized manufacturer, assembler and marketer
of an extensive range of products sold in the international marketplace and
has evolved into one of North America's largest integrated sourcing networks
("ISN") of batteries and battery related-products. BlueStar, through its
network, markets over 6,000 different battery products from more than
165 suppliers. The Company anticipates that its product lines will continue
to be enhanced through further strategic alliances with the world's leading
cell and battery pack manufacturers, along with the continued expansion of its
integrated sourcing network participants.
