The Friends of International Institute Announce 1998 Heritage Hall of Fame Honoree Tarik Daoud, Reports Detroit Auto Dealers AssociationDETROIT, May 21 -- The Friends of the International Institute of Metropolitan Detroit have selected Tarik Daoud, President of Al Long Ford in Warren, Mich., as one of four ethnic leaders to be named 1998 International Heritage Hall of Fame Honorees, reports Detroit Auto Dealers Association. The honorees, chosen for outstanding service to their ethnic groups and to the community, were announced at an award presentation held Sunday, May 17, at the Detroit Athletic Club. Daoud, a business leader in automobile dealerships, was recognized for his generous support of education through scholarships and his involvement in civic and charitable works. After leaving his native Iraq in 1956 to attend the Detroit Institute of Technology, Daoud joined Stark Hickey Ford sales operations, and by 1972 had purchased Al Long Ford. His contributions to scholarships and endowments exceed $500,000 to such institutions as Wayne State University, Albion College, Eastern Michigan University, Boston University, Lawrence Technological University, Madonna University and the International Institute of Metropolitan Detroit. Daoud is the recipient of the Ellis Island Medal of Honor authorized by the U.S. Congress, and the Founders Award of the University of Michigan. Al Long Ford, Inc., is a member of the Detroit Auto Dealers Association, which supports more than 240 members with legislative and industry representation, educational programs and community relations activities.
