Standard Products' Gaylord Division Receives Gold Pentastar Award from Chrysler
    DEARBORN, Mich., May 29 -- The Standard Products Company
, announced today that its automotive sealing plant in Gaylord,
Michigan, has been awarded Chrysler Corporation's Gold Pentastar
Award for excellent performance in meeting Chrysler's rigorous supplier
quality goals for the 1997 model year.  The Gaylord division manufactures belt
weatherstrip assemblies for several Chrysler models.  The facility also
manufactures glass run channel assemblies along with the weatherstrip systems
for other North American vehicle manufacturers.
    Nance Taylor, Chrysler supplier quality specialist, presented the award in
three separate meetings to ensure all employees were able to participate in
the award process.  Gaylord's catalyst for excellence was Standard Products'
corporate-wide Six Sigma-Low Cost Producer Strategy which focuses on
identifying and removing process variation and defects.  The results are
reduced costs, improved processes and increased customer satisfaction.
    Standard Products manufactures sealing, trim and vibration control systems
for the automotive original equipment industry in North and South America and
Europe.  Its Holm Industries subsidiary produces seals for residential and
commercial appliances, doors and windows.  Its Oliver Rubber subsidiary
manufactures tread rubber and equipment for the retread industry.  Information
