Electric Truck On Display At ElectroTech/98 Exhibition
RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C., June 26 -- The 1998 Ford Ranger
Electric Vehicle (EV) will be on display at ElectroTech/98, the premier
technology exhibition dedicated to the advancement of the electrical and
electronics industries. Scheduled for October 18-21 at the George R. Brown
Convention Center in Houston, Texas, ElectroTech/98 will take place during the
annual meeting of the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC). Managed
by ISA, the international society for measurement and control, this inaugural
technology exposition coincides with the first meeting of the IEC in the U.S.
in 25 years, since the annual meeting rotates among its members' countries.
Based on Ford Motor Company's best-selling compact truck, the Ford Ranger,
the 1998 Ford Ranger EV pickup truck incorporates the same "Best-in-Class"
design features as its gasoline counterpart. The Ranger EV is powered by
proven lead-acid batteries and is equipped with third-generation, electric
vehicle-specific, powertrain components and electronics. The Ranger EV will
have a driving range between charges of approximately 60 miles. The goal for
this vehicle is to meet a minimum of 150,000 miles or 10 years of useful
driving life for the customer.
The Ranger EV, Ford's 1998 production electric vehicle, has been designed
and tested as reliable, durable and "Built Ford Tough." The Ranger EV ties
into the special interest technical forums developed by the IEC. The
Intelligent Transportation Society of America will host a roundtable session
on the future of transportation that will include the U.S. Federal Government,
the automobile and communications industries and the public sector. Roundtable
sessions will also feature experts from the Infrastructure Standards Panel who
will discuss the electrotechnical aspects of global information infrastructure
from the U.S. perspective.
At ElectroTech/98, companies and organizations such as AMP, Underwriters
Laboratories, IEEE and Rockwell Automation will showcase their latest
electrical and electronic components, power components, connectors,
insulators, semiconductors, OEM electronics, fuses, gauges and more to leading
engineers and scientists.
ElectroTech/98 will attract attendees from the IEC annual meeting and
manufacturers in the Gulf States, as well as exhibitors and attendees from ISA
EXPO/98 for a total expected attendance of over 3,000. Admission to
ElectroTech/98 is free.
ElectroTech/98 will run concurrently with ISA EXPO/98, which will be held
at the Astrodome USA in Houston from October 19-22. ISA EXPO/98, an annual
conference and exhibition, is the premier showcase in North America for
measurement and control technology. More than 40,000 instrumentation,
measurement and control professionals from around the world will attend ISA
EXPO/98.
ElectroTech/98 and IEC'98 involve international organizations that develop
and promulgate standards of professional practice. The IEC develops
international standards for the electrical and electronics industry in
cooperation with the American National Standards Institute. ISA develops
standards for measurement and control instrumentation and systems.

ISA is a 47,000-member international, nonprofit, educational organization.
The Society fosters advancement in the theory, design, manufacture, and use of
instruments, computers, and systems for measurement and control.
In addition to hosting the largest conferences and exhibitions for
instrumentation and control in the Western Hemisphere, ISA is a leading
training organization and a respected publisher of books, magazines, and
consensus standards. And, ISA serves the professional development and
credentialing needs of Control Systems Engineers (CSE), instrument
technicians, and others within the field of measurement and control.
