Lincoln to Sponsor Automotive Fine Arts Society Exhibition at Pebble Beach For Fourth Consecutive Year
Rare 1933 KB Lincoln to be Featured

PEBBLE BEACH, Calif., July 8 -- Twenty three of the world's
preeminent automotive artists will unveil their latest original artwork as
part of their participation in the Automotive Fine Arts Society's annual
exhibition, which is held at the famed Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance,
August 16, 1998.
The Automotive Fine Arts Society is comprised of 24 artists from around
the world and participates in this annual showcase to premiere the newest
works from its members. For the Pebble Beach exhibition, AFAS members adhere
to one important rule -- all of the displayed items in each artist's gallery
have never been seen at Pebble Beach. "We want to ensure that guests who
visit the Monterey Peninsula during this premier motoring weekend are treated
to entirely new art and a new art experience," comments Ken Eberts, president
and founding member of AFAS.
As part of AFAS' participation, one member is selected for the honor of
creating the art featured on the official Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance
poster and program cover. This year, the honor goes to Barry Rowe of Dorset,
England. History foretells that this year's cover art, entitled "Minerva at
Pebble Beach," will become a highly regarded collector's item. Rowe will be
present to sign a limited number of concours posters during the exhibition.
Adding its own artistic flair to the exhibition will be Lincoln, sponsor
of the AFAS exhibition for the fourth consecutive year. The automaker will
complement the AFAS artwork with original advertisements that appeared
internationally in the 1920s and '30s, as well as a restored 1933 KB Lincoln.
This historic Lincoln was originally owned by A.B. Gianinni, founder of Bank
of America, who drove it to meet with clients during the depression era to
reassure them of the bank's strength. Bank of America recently re-purchased
the vehicle and plans to display it at various events.
"We're extremely proud to associate Lincoln with the Automotive Fine Arts
Society," says Jacques Nasser, president of Ford Automotive Operations. "AFAS
artists and Lincoln designers strive for many of the same goals -- ingenuity,
creativity and a subject that's pleasing to the beholder."
Journalists and special invited guests will receive a sneak preview of the
AFAS exhibition, as well as the West Coast unveiling of the all-new 2000
Lincoln LS, at a private reception on Saturday, August 15 from 4 to 6:30 p.m.
