Armageddon Avoided - Recaro Helps Save the World!CLAWSON, Mich., July 10 -- In the hottest action-packed thriller of the summer, "Armageddon," starring Bruce Willis, the name that pops off the screen at you during the movie's most exciting and explosive scenes is none other than "RECARO." The RECARO SPG-Racer is featured as the seat-of-choice for Willis' motley crew in the moon-travel vehicles (Armadillos) used to navigate the run-away asteroid after landing in the larger space shuttles. The RECARO race shells are an excellent choice for Willis and his drilling crew in their successful quest to save the world. The SPG-Racer was built to withstand extreme stress (like an exploding asteroid), and are tailored to hold the body firmly in place in all driving situations (like plummeting across the asteroid's terrain from hell). This isn't the first time the world-famous RECARO specialty seats have appeared on the big screen -- or the small screen. James Bond sat in one in his famous Aston Martin. Star Trek captains have sat in RECARO seats. And the seats have been in the television series "Star Trek Voyager," "Deep Space Nine" and previously on "L.A. Law." For more than 30 years RECARO has been the seat of choice for many winners -- especially on the race track. Many of the world's great racing series, the LeMans, Sebring Daytona, Rally Monte Carlo and the Mille Miglia have all been won in RECARO racing shells. Twenty-one out of 25 teams in the current Super Tourenwagen championship in Germany (similar to the United States' NASCAR championship) use RECARO racing shells. RECARO supplies racing shells to teams in the British, Italian, South African and Australian Touring Car Championships. In the FIA-GT international series, RECARO equips the Porsche, Nissan and Chrysler/Viper teams. The list of European racecar drivers currently using RECARO shells includes Laurent Aiello, David Leslie, Roland Asch, Leopold Prinz von Bayern and Johnny Cecotto. Today, RECARO North America has moved beyond the company's image as primarily a sports car seat supplier. Its name is synonymous with premium-quality specialty seating, serving the automotive, heavy truck, bus/transit, aftermarket, motorsports and specialty markets. In April, RECARO and Johnson Controls Inc. (JCI) announced a joint venture to manufacture and market the RECARO brand seat for passenger cars and light trucks to automakers in North America. This joint venture allows JCI to offer its first specialty, brand name automotive seat under the internationally known RECARO name and provides RECARO entry into JCI's automotive customer domain. The phrase "Made by RECARO" on the seat means something special -- not just around the world, but now even in outer space. RECARO North America, located in Clawson, Mich., is the U.S. subsidiary of the German seat manufacturer RECARO GmbH & Company, the world's largest manufacturer of specialty seats. RECARO seats meet the highest standards for design, comfort, safety and quality. RECARO designs and manufactures custom and orthopedic seating products for passenger vehicles, heavy trucks, bus, rail and racing applications.
