Ford Recognizes BREED Design Engineering

LAKELAND, Fla.--July 14, 1998--Ford Motor Company recently presented two Awards of Excellence to members of BREED Technologies' steering systems design engineering team, as part of Ford's 1998 Customer-Driven Quality Award program.
BREED engineers, Jason Luo and George Xu, successfully designed a unique 15 inch steering wheel that meets Ford's stringent requirements in crash performance, static force deflection, weight reduction, clear vision and increased armature rim frequency. Thirty-seven computer-aided simulations were conducted throughout the steering wheel design development process. This wheel will be featured in upcoming luxury vehicles in the US and Europe, offered in both leather wrapped and genuine wood with leather trim.
"BREED is known throughout the industry for our unparalleled ability to respond quickly, and our drive to achieve total customer satisfaction," commented Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Johnnie Cordell Breed. "We are honored that Ford chose to acknowledge the outstanding work of George Xu and Jason Luo - but more importantly, we are pleased that BREED was able to design and deliver this technology solution to our customer."
Headquartered in Lakeland, Fla., BREED is rapidly emerging as one of the world's most fully integrated suppliers of complete automotive occupant safety systems.
