Metro Detroit Ford Dealers Hold Their Inaugural NASCAR Fan Appreciation DayDEARBORN, Mich., Aug. 5 -- The heat is on for NASCAR racing fans in Detroit! The inaugural Metro Detroit Ford Dealers' "Ford Fan Appreciation Day" is set for August 12, 1998, at the Michigan State Fair Grounds. Fans will have the opportunity to meet some of their favorite Winston Cup drivers. Ford officials expect the event will attract more than 5,000 people. Ford Fan Appreciation Day precedes the Devilbiss 400 at Michigan Speedway, and will take place on August 12, 1998, from 4-8 p.m. The event will bring together various Ford Motorsport drivers and sponsors in a free evening of racing-related fun for the whole family. NASCAR Winston Cup drivers Dale Jarrett, Bill Elliott, Kenny Irwin Jr., Mark Martin, Rick Mast, Dick Trickle, Michael Waltrip, and Rusty Wallace are scheduled to appear at the event, along with seven-time NHRA Funny Car champion John Force, CART standouts Adrian Fernandez and Bryan Herta, and several NASCAR Craftsman Truck drivers. The drivers will sign autographs and participate in interactive "question & answer" sessions emceed by the Motor Racing Network's Allen Bestwick. In addition, several Ford teams will have their show cars on display and team merchandise for sale. The event will also feature several local radio stations, ticket giveaways, interactive racing displays, clowns and children's attractions, production vehicle and car club displays, and pit crew demonstrations along with other exciting racing attractions. Free Fan Day admission tickets are available at any of the 31 Metro Detroit Ford Dealers from July 27-August 11, 1998. Tickets at the door will be $10 with all proceeds going to the United Way.
