Toyota Announces 1999 Prices

    TORRANCE, Calif., Aug. 7 -- Toyota Motor Sales (TMS), U.S.A.,
Inc., released manufactured suggested retail prices (MSRP) today on selected
1999 model cars and trucks.
    Prices on Toyota's comprehensive lineup of sport utility vehicles (SUV)
were increased slightly to account for product improvements and equipment
additions.  RAV4 received a minimal average price increase of 0.4 percent, or
$77 with the addition of tilt steering on the two-door soft top models.
4Runner received a facelift and major product upgrades that included a new
four-wheel-drive (4WD) system on the Limited grade.  All 4Runners will be
equipped with a new grille, multi-reflector head lamps, front valence bumper
and water-repellent glass.  4Runner prices on average increased 1.4 percent,
or $388.  The Land Cruiser prices increased 1.1 percent, or $528.
    North American-built products, Avalon, Sienna and Tacoma also received
price increases to reflect added standard equipment for the '99 model year.
With new standard equipment which includes daytime running lights and dual
heated color-keyed power mirrors, prices for the full-size Avalon on average
increased by 0.8 percent, or $219.
    The Sienna minivan MSRP increased an average of 1.0 percent, or $245 and
the Tacoma pickup truck received an average increase of 1.4 percent, or $244.
All Sienna's receive an engine immobilizer security system and daytime running
lights.  A full-size spare tire will be standard on selected models.  All
Tacoma's will be equipped with front seat belt pretensioners and force
limiters for added safety and air conditioning will be standard on select
models.
    On a sales-weighted average, Corolla and Camry prices remained,
essentially, unchanged.  Prices for the all-new Camry Solara sport coupe were
announced July 9.  Prices for the 1999 Celica and Celica convertible will be
released soon.
