1998 Edition of Facts & Figures Documents Industry Milestones
WASHINGTON, Aug. 13 -- 1997 was a historic year for the
American automotive industry. Total vehicles in use in the United States
passed the 200 million milestone, sales of trucks topped the seven million
mark and production of trucks exceeded car production for the first time since
the end of World War II.
These statistics are among the data that have been compiled by the
American Automobile Manufacturers Association (AAMA) in the 1998 edition of
Motor Vehicle Facts & Figures. This annual publication provides valuable
information to the media, industry and government as well as the general
public.
With its easily legible charts and graphics, Facts and Figures presents a
clear illustration of the automotive industry's overall effect on the economy.
"AAMA's Statistics Department works all year long gathering the most
extensive and accurate statistical information regarding our industry," said
Andrew H. Card, Jr., AAMA's President and CEO. "From production numbers and
retail sales to the most popular color trends for passenger cars and light
trucks in the U.S., Facts and Figures has it all."
