Chrysler Announces 1999 Jeep(R) Grand Cherokee

Chrysler Sets Price on All-New 1999 Jeep(R) Grand Cherokee, Remains Unchanged From 1998AUBURN HILLS, Mich., Aug. 18 -- Chrysler Corporation announced that U.S. introductory prices for the totally redesigned 1999 Jeep(R) Grand Cherokee, long the benchmark in the luxury sport-utility vehicle segment, will remain essentially unchanged from 1998 levels. The suggested retail base price for the 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo will decrease by $250, to $26,220 for the two-wheel drive model and $28,190 for the four-wheel drive model. The top-of-the-line Grand Cherokee Limited will remain unchanged from 1998 at $31,985 for the two-wheel drive model and $34,415 for the four-wheel drive model. All prices include the destination charge of $525. "The new Grand Cherokee is improved in every respect," said Martin R. Levine, General Manager - Chrysler/Plymouth/Jeep Division. "Because of efficiencies achieved in the development of the Grand Cherokee, we can offer a completely new design, state-of-the-art technology, better ergonomics and an incomparable level of refinement and luxury at a price that is equal to last year's model." The 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee is offered with an optional all-new 4.7-liter V-8 PowerTech engine that offers more horsepower, increased fuel efficiency and lower emissions. A substantially refined 4.0-liter in-line six cylinder engine is standard. "We succeeded in establishing a new definition of luxury in the sport utility segment," said Levine, "but we did not forget our Jeep roots. The all-new 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee retains the legendary 'go anywhere, do anything' capability yet provides more refined on-road performance and handling than ever before." The 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee is manufactured at Chrysler Corporation's Jefferson North Assembly Plant in Detroit. It will be available in U.S. dealerships beginning this fall. Production for international markets begins in the first quarter of 1999.
