Red Cross Blood Drive Continues At Auto Dealers in Costa Mesa

COSTA MESA, Calif.--Aug. 31, 1998--A Red Cross blood drive will continue in Costa Mesa this week and next at two auto dealerships.
The Harbor Boulevard of Cars dealers in Costa Mesa have joined with the American Red Cross to conduct a blood drive in August and September.
According to Craig Shearer, dealer association president: "Not only are dealer employees participating, but the public is encouraged to come and donate blood at our facilities. At six dealerships so far, we have generated a supply of blood that could save over 400 lives.
"More than 1,000 people every day require blood transfusions in Southern California. The potential for saving lives is a compelling reason for participation," concluded Shearer.
According to the Red Cross, the current supply of available blood in Southern California is very low. Because whole blood only lasts 42 days, the supply needs to be replenished continually.
The Red Cross Bloodmobile is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. as follows:
Friday Sept. 4 Nabers Cadillac, Oldsmobile Inc.
                        2600 Harbor Blvd.
                        Costa Mesa

Wednesday Sept. 9 Connell Chevrolet
                        2828 Harbor Blvd.
                        Costa Mesa

"The employees of the Harbor Boulevard of Cars auto dealerships want to help the Red Cross close the gap on the current void in the essential blood supply," concluded Shearer.
The Harbor Boulevard of Cars is an association of 11 auto dealers, representing 19 domestic and foreign vehicles. The dealers generated in excess of $300 million in taxable sales in Costa Mesa in 1997.
