Hot performance: Infiniti Posts All Time Record Month; August Marks Best Ever Sales Month in Nine Year History of Division

    CARSON, Calif., Sept. 1 -- Infiniti, the luxury division of
Nissan Motor Corporation U.S.A. (NMC), reported total August sales of 7,717
units versus 5,961 units posted last year, a 34.4 percent increase.  The
results reflect Infiniti's best sales month ever since the division was
created in 1989.  The highest previous sales month was set in March, 1995 when
7,459 units were retailed.
    Helping to boost traffic, awareness and the overall sales effort, the all-
new G20 luxury sports sedan - which reached showrooms during the end of July -
launched solidly with sales of 1,496 units.  The I30, Infiniti's sales leader
for the month, also had strong August sales with total units sold at 2,990, a
90.6 percent gain over last month.
    The QX4 had one if its best sales months since it was introduced in 1996,
with 1,861 units sold, up 34.4 percent versus 1997.  The Q45, Infiniti's
flagship luxury performance sedan, posted strong August sales of 1,196 units,
a 32.7 percent increase over August 1997, and a 25.5 percent increase versus
July.
    Total NMC sales for August, including Nissan and Infiniti divisions,
totaled 71,155 units, an increase of 6.8 percent versus last year.
