Nissan Announces August Sales

Momentum continues; Nissan up 4.2 percent versus 1997; Maxima Leads Way With All-Time Record

    CARSON, Calif., Sept. 1 -- The Nissan division of Nissan
Motor Corporation U.S.A. (NMC) reported total sales of 63,438 units for the
month of August, up 4.2 percent over last year and the second month in a row
Nissan was up over the previous year.
    The Maxima drove August sales for Nissan with its best ever month,
recording total sales of 16,366 units, an increase of 28.4 percent over the
previous year.  This breaks its previous sales record set in March 1994, when
15,667 units were sold.
    The Altima posted sales of 10,269 units, up 4.1 percent over last year.
The Frontier's sales momentum also remained strong with total sales of 11,641
units, an increase of 22.8 percent over last month.  This represents its fifth
month of consecutive month over month sales increases.  Pathfinder had sales
of 6,800 units, up 26.8 percent over last month. Quest sales continue to climb
with sales of 4,134 units, up over last month and up 25.6 percent over last
year.
    Other highlights include:  Sentra posted sales of 11,158 units, an
increase of 1.1 percent versus last month.  The 240SX had sales of 315 units,
up 7.3 percent versus last year and the 200SX also showed gains with sales of
2,749 units, up 29.4 percent from last month.
    Combined August sales for Nissan and Infiniti divisions totaled 71,155
units, an increase of 6.8 percent versus last year.  Sales of Nissan's North
American-produced vehicles accounted for 63.0 percent of August sales.
    Nissan Motor Corporation U.S.A., which includes the Infiniti luxury
division, Markets and distributes Nissan and Infiniti vehicles in the United
States to more than 1,200 dealers.
