'Hyundai Advantage' Warranty Sets Standard As the Best in The Automotive IndustryFive-year Bumper-to-Bumper and 10-year Powertrain Warranties Add Up to a `Decade of Dependability' for 1999 Hyundai Buyers FOUNTAIN VALLEY, Calif., Sept. 23 -- Hyundai Motor America today announced what it calls the best warranty in the automotive business -- the Hyundai Advantage. Each new 1999 model Hyundai sold to a retail customer will be covered by a five-year/60,000-mile "bumper-to-bumper" limited warranty, plus a 10-year/100,000-mile powertrain limited warranty. In addition, customers will enjoy the peace of mind offered by the company's no-cost Roadside Assistance program which has been extended from three to five years with unlimited mileage. The Roadside Assistance coverage offers a twenty-four hour toll free number to get fast help for any roadside emergency, including accident towing and trip interruption. There are no deductibles on any of the warranties. "We are very proud to announce America's best auto warranty, demonstrating our unshakable confidence in every Hyundai vehicle," said Finbarr O'Neill, president and chief executive officer of Hyundai Motor America. "We know our customers are looking for a hassle-free automotive experience, and this warranty is our promise to every customer that Hyundai will provide a decade of dependability." For comparison, luxury auto maker Lexus provides a four-year/50,000-mile "bumper to bumper" limited warranty on 1998 models, plus a six-year/70,000-mile powertrain limited warranty and four years of roadside assistance. Currently, Volkswagen matches Hyundai with a 10-year/100,000-mile first owner powertrain limited warranty, but only offers a two-year/24,000-mile "bumper to bumper" limited warranty. Cadillac offers a four-year/50,000-mile basic and powertrain limited warranty, as does Acura. However, the Japanese luxury car maker supplies no roadside assistance for its 1998 models. The Hyundai Advantage warranties and Roadside Assistance plans will cover all 1999 models, from the completely redesigned mid-size Sonata to the subcompact Accent. Between 1994 and 1998, Hyundai's basic limited warranty was an industry standard three-years/36,000-miles, while powertrains were covered for five years and 60,000 miles. Hyundai Motor America, based in Fountain Valley, Calif., is a subsidiary of Hyundai Motor Company of Korea.
