7 October 1998

Volvo Dealership Grand Opening in San Diego, CA
    ROCKLEIGH, N.J., Oct. 6 -- On October 15, 1998, Hans Olov
Olsson and the North American Executive Management team will attend the Grand
Opening and Dedication of the all new San Diego Volvo, a 57,600-square-foot,
state-of-the-art facility which represents the Volvo retail facility of the
future.
    The new $2.8 million facility includes: a 9,200-square-foot, two-story
showroom and corporate office building; a 3,000-square-foot customer service
reception building; a 10,000-square-foot parts and service department; and
25,000 square feet of service and body repair space, including 42 high-tech
service bays.
Among the attributes of Volvo's new retailer facilities are human and
family oriented touches such as an unobtrusive greeter at the door and a child
play area visible to the sales consultant areas. Volvo retailer facilities,
like the new San Diego Volvo, will also be open and airy, with light colored
wood and soft colors used throughout -- design elements long associated with
Scandinavia. Volvo enlisted the services of Design Forum, the same company
that assisted Saturn and Land Rover in the development of their innovative
retailer designs.
San Diego Volvo's Grand Opening and Dedication is scheduled for Thursday,
October 15, 1998 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the new facility, 5350 Kearny Mesa
Road.
More than 200 local dignitaries and top Volvo officials are expected to
participate in the evening's events, which include tours of the showroom and
service facilities, food and entertainment, as well as a formal ceremony with
comments from Olsson and San Diego Volvo President Wes Hinkle.
San Diego Volvo is among the first such facilities to be created in the
United States. Others include Smith Company Motor Cars of Charleston, West
Virginia, and Nils Sefeldt Volvo of Houston, Texas which became fully
operational in 1996.
Volvo Cars of North America, Inc. is the sole authorized North American
importer and wholesaler of new Volvo automobiles, parts and accessories. The
company and its subsidiaries, including Volvo Canada, Ltd., is wholly owned by
Volvo Car Corporation which is based in Gothenburg, Sweden. VCNA is
headquartered in Rockleigh, New Jersey.
San Diego Volvo is the largest volume retailer in Southern California
having sold nearly 22,000 new Volvo cars and more than 10,000 used cars in the
past 25 years. It is among the top 10 percent of Volvo dealers nationwide in
customer sales and service satisfaction. It is owned and operated by Wes
Hinkle and located at 5350 Kearny Mesa Road, San Diego, CA. For more
