Johnson Controls Supplies Ford Motor Company With Industry's First TravelNote(R) Digital Recorder
Mercury Villager, Mountaineer and Ford Explorer to be Exclusive
Vehicles in 1999 to Offer HomeLink(R) with TravelNote(R)
For Driver Convenience

PLYMOUTH, Mich., Oct. 7 -- Ford Motor Company will
be the first auto manufacturer to offer TravelNote(R) by Johnson Controls --
a digital voice recorder built into the driver's sun visor. TravelNote will be
available as an option bundled with the HomeLink(R) Universal Transceiver in
the 1999 Mercury Villager and Mountaineer and on the 1999 Ford Explorer.
TravelNote is a digital voice recorder with up to three minutes of
record/play time. It has three buttons -- record, play and delete -- and
provides drivers with a simple and convenient way to record important
information while driving. HomeLink -- in more than 3.5 million vehicles on
the road -- is a programmable electronic communication system capable of
controlling a variety of home convenience and safety devices including garage
doors, estate gates, home security systems, lighting and other home automation
features.
"TravelNote is a convenient way for a driver to record ideas without
having to stop and write them down," said Michael Suman, vice president of
marketing and advanced sales for Johnson Controls. "The possibilities are
endless, but we see this as a handy tool for cell phone users to record
numbers and other important tidbits. TravelNote also is useful for recording
directions, ideas, to-do lists and other spur of the moment thoughts."
