1999 Mustang Prices Continue Value Leadership
DEARBORN, Mich., Nov. 30 -- Mustang celebrates its 35th year
as an American icon with a new design and prices for comparably equipped cars
below 1997 model suggested retail prices, Ford Division announced today.
Suggested retail prices for the 1999 model V-6 Mustang coupe with new
styling, improved handling and improved horsepower will start at $16,995, up
$320 or 1.9% from the 1998 model. The V-6 Mustang convertible will start at
$21,595, up $420 or 2.0%.
Suggested retail prices for the 1999 model Mustang GT coupe, featuring a
V-8 engine, will start at $21,395, while the MSRP for the GT convertible is
$25,395. Both GT models are up $720 compared with 1998 model prices. The
addition of ABS brakes as standard equipment accounts for more than 70% of the
increase. All the 1999 model Mustang MSRPs include destination and delivery
charges of $525, unchanged from the 1998 price levels.
"Mustang has carved an identity as a value leader in its segment," said
Ford Division President Jim O'Connor. "Mustang's new features improve the
value equation that's kept this car vibrant and sales rising. We're confident
1999 is going to be another successful chapter in Mustang's storied history."
A new option available for the 1999 model Mustang is all-speed traction
control, with a suggested retail price of $230. This option is available on
all models, but must be ordered with ABS (standard on GT models and optional
on V-6 models).

New Looks, New Power for 1999
The 1999 Mustang builds on its traditional character as an American icon,
with a new shape which draws equally from the classic styling of the original
Mustang and taunt, New Edge design. Mustang engines get more muscle in 1999,
with the 3.8 liter V-6 engine getting a boost of 40 horsepower to 190
horsepower. The Mustang GT's 4.6 liter SOHC V-8 gets an increase of 35
horsepower, up to 260. The new traction control system uses a combination of
powertrain and braking controls to provide enhanced control, particularly on
wet or slippery roads.
Mustang celebrates its 35th anniversary with strong sales leadership. The
car has almost 20% of the market in the small specialty segment, and has
experienced increased sales in each of the past 15 months, enjoying 22% growth
in 1998. With special promotions and events geared toward celebrating
Mustang's 35th anniversary, the car is poised to maintain its special place in
the American experience.
