Volvo Teaches Driving Techniques in New S80
ROCKLEIGH, N.J., Jan. 13 -- Recently, drivers in selected
cities had the unique opportunity to swerve, skid and stop short safely at
Volvo's Advanced Driving School.
Offered at no charge to approximately 400 people in Chicago, New York,
Atlanta and San Francisco, this pilot program included training from
qualified instructors and controlled driving experiences in the new
Volvo S80, the safest Volvo model to date.
Over an eight-hour period, participants attended classroom sessions and
maneuvered vehicles through various test tracks designed to emphasize
the importance of driver safety and help prepare drivers for emergency
situations. The course was conducted by the New Jersey-based driving
school Driving Dynamics in conjunction with Volvo.
"People don't usually have the opportunity to test how they'd reach in a
panic situation, so this is a very good experience," commented David Lin
who attended the program in San Francisco.
The success of the pilot program is currently being evaluated to
determine whether it will be implemented on a wider scale in the future.
"This driving school could become an integral part of the car-buying
process benefiting both the consumer and Volvo," stated Carol Heller, Volvo's
manager for Market Intelligence who organized the program.
