Jaguar S-TYPE Goes on Sale in May
MAHWAH, N.J., Feb. 5 -- Jaguar today announced the
Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price of the 2000 model year Jaguar S-TYPE
that will go on sale in the United States the first week of May. The
3.0-liter V6 version of the all-new sports sedan will be available at
$42,500, and the 4.0-liter V8 model will sell for $48,000.
The S-TYPE adds a third line to Jaguar's range of prestige luxury sedans
and sports cars. Named in tribute to the company's high-performance
3.8 S-type of the 1960's, the car blends traditional styling of Jaguar's
past with a variety of sophisticated features.
"With the S-TYPE, we've looked to the past to deliver the future," said
Michael H. Dale, president of Jaguar North America. "We've incorporated
traditional Jaguar styling, refined performance and true elegance in an
all-new sports sedan, and we're pleased to offer this car at a price that will
open the Jaguar experience to a far larger audience."
The S-TYPE's exterior styling delivers a fresh modern look while it evokes
Jaguar's powerful design legacy. The car's elliptical grille, highly
contoured hood and distinctive four-headlight Jaguar "face" link the car to
its distinguished predecessors. Inside, richly finished wood and fine-quality
leather are incorporated into a contemporary interior.
Two powertrains are available, the new Jaguar-engineered 3.0-liter AJ-V6
and the highly regarded 4.0-liter AJ-V8, that are backed by a new five-speed
automatic transmission. A finely tuned double-wishbone suspension supports
the sporting intent of the rear-wheel drive S-TYPE. Forged aluminum control
arms keep weight low, and a speed-sensitive, variable-ratio rack-and-pinion
steering system delivers nimble cornering and excellence response.
With S-TYPE, Jaguar takes a step forward in safety technology. S-TYPE is
equipping with a new generation of side-impact air bags in addition to dual
air bags. In addition, Jaguar Assist, an emergency messaging system that
provides automated response in the event of an air bag deployment, is
available as an option with the S-TYPE's deluxe Communication Package.
The S-TYPE's standard and optional equipment offering will provide buyers
with a variety of sophisticated features. Among the innovations is a system
of voice-activated controls, a first of its kind in the auto industry, to
operate the climate control, audio system and the telephone. Among other
features, an in-dash Global Positioning Satellite (GPS) navigation system,
Dynamic Stability Control and Computer Active Technology Suspension (CATS) are
available.
The Jaguar S-TYPE will begin arriving at dealerships in late April. The
company expects to sell approximately 20,000 S-TYPEs in North America in its
first full year of production.
