TVI Corporation Shelter Approved for Use by Safe Kids Program
GLENN DALE, Md., March 4 -- TVI Corporation announced today
that its Vehicle Topper Tent has been designated as the official shelter for
the Washington Regional Child Passenger Seat Team. The Regional Team is a
coalition of agencies in Washington DC and the nearby Maryland and Virginia
suburbs dedicated to the improvement of safety of children while passengers in
autos. Officer Robert Wall, a police officer with the Fairfax County Police
Department, serves as Chairman of the Regional Team.
A major initiative of Regional Team members is the operation of Safety
Seat Check Stations to inspect the installation of car safety seats and to
educate parents in their proper installation and use. Check Stations are set
up periodically in high traffic areas such as fire and police stations and
shopping malls. Topper Tents are used for these Safety Seat Check Stations.
Children's car safety is a major national problem according to Reader's
Digest. In a Special Report in the March 1999 issue, the Digest presents data
indicating that more than 90% of child car seats are either defective or
installed improperly. Data from the National Highway Traffic Safety
Administration indicates that some 30,000 children are injured in traffic
crashes each year even though they were riding in safety seats. The Reader's
Digest article contains an interview with Officer Wall, and includes a picture
of him standing inside a TVI Topper Tent.
Steve Ager, coordinator of the Prince George's County Safe Kids Coalition,
has used the Topper Tent in numerous Check Stations. He notes that the
colorful Toppers provide both visibility and functionality for the Check
Stations. He finds that TVI's articulating frame and one-piece design
provides a shelter which is easily handled, quickly deployed, and readily
anchored on parking lots.
TVI salutes the dedicated efforts of these many professionals in the Safe
Kids programs. It is their experience and skills in inspecting seats and
training parents which will achieve the goals of reduced injuries and deaths
of child passengers. TVI is delighted to be associated with the Washington
Regional Team, and immensely gratified that its shelters may make some small
contribution to the success of these initiatives.
TVI Corporation is a publicly owned company whose stock trades on the OTC
Bulletin Board under the symbol TVIN. Its products may be viewed on the
