Texas Auto Insurance Rates to Decrease for Many GEICO Policyholders
WASHINGTON, March 23 -- GEICO today announced an auto
insurance rate decrease of 6 percent for its GEICO and GEICO General
policyholders, and 17.3 percent for its GEICO Indemnity policyholders in
Texas. These changes are statewide averages, and will vary by location and by
individual policyholder rating characteristics. The rate reductions will go
into effect on May 1, 1999.
"Overall, these rate reductions go beyond those approved by the Texas
Department of Insurance for 1999," said Jim Hitt, GEICO's regional vice
president. "Safer cars and safer drivers have all led to fewer and less
severe accidents and help to reduce insurance costs, especially in liability,
injury and uninsured motorist coverages. We are pleased to pass these savings
on to our Texas policyholders and new customers who call us for free rate
quotes."
GEICO uses television, radio, print media and direct mail to attract
customers to call its 1-800-841-3000 number, and keeps its rates low by
dealing directly with the customer. It is the premier auto insurer offering
sales and claim services 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
Nationally, GEICO insures more than 3.5 million policyholders and over 5.4
million automobiles.

GEICO (Government Employees Insurance Company) and its affiliates GEICO
General, GEICO Indemnity and GEICO Casualty companies insure private passenger
automobiles and provide homeowner and other types of insurance for qualified
applicants. The companies market collectively under the trademark GEICO
Direct.
