Ryder TRS Raises Rates on Average 9% Nationwide

         Rate Increase Addresses Overdue Need for Inflation Adjustment

    DENVER, March 24 -- Ryder TRS, the nation's second largest
consumer truck rental company and a subsidiary of Budget Group, Inc.
, announced today it will raise one-way rates by nine percent on
average in all locations and mileage ranges, effective April 1, 1999.
    Most one-way, self-move rates are the lowest in over five years on an
inflation-adjusted basis; despite steady increases in van-line move prices.
On average, self-move rates remain approximately one-third the cost of
comparable van-line moves.
    "The costs of fleet and rental operations have continued to escalate over
the past several years, and while most rates have increased modestly, they
haven't kept up with inflation," stated Thomas B. Zorn, newly-appointed
president, Budget Truck Group.  "We endeavor to keep our pricing affordable to
consumers, yet profitable for the company and its shareholders."
    Ryder TRS also has made an investment in more than 15,000 1998 and
1999 model year, consumer-friendly trucks.  Available this summer, many of
these new vehicles come fully equipped with innovative hydraulic lift-gates
with extendable ramps providing both consumer and commercial renters with easy
loading options and towing capabilities.
    Continued Zorn, "The new fleet of combination lift-gate and ramp trucks
will offer a more reliable and useful vehicle to renters, while providing
Ryder with lower maintenance and operating costs, as well as improved fleet
utilization."
