Spring Travelers Hopping to Sunny Climates, Says AAA; Southern California, Lake Tahoe Top Destinations for Winter-Weary Travelers

SAN FRANCISCO--April 2, 1999--Theme parks, beaches and bunny slopes are top draws for Northern Californians enjoying spring holidays, AAA reported today.
"Pleasant weather has winter-weary travelers hopping to enjoy outdoor activities, with Southern California, the central coast and Lake Tahoe the top destinations for Northern Californians," said Scharlene Murray of AAA Worldwide Travel.
Air travelers are also rating Southern California as a top destination, as well as Las Vegas, Hawaii and Florida, according to AAA.
"Spring break is a great warm-up for summer vacation," said Murray. "Now is a good time to firm up summer vacation plans while many good values are available."
Above-normal snowpacks in the Sierra Nevada has made for good skiing and snowboarding conditions for this time of year, according to AAA, which broadcasts daily ski reports. The AAA Snow Report Hotline is (415) 864-6440.
Spring break also ushers in the camping season. Campers eager to enjoy the outdoors can call Park.Net at (800) 444-7275 for reservations at California State Parks. For National Park Reservations, call (800) 365-2267.
AAA urges vacationers to bring sunscreen, hats and sunglasses, especially for those venturing into bright sunshine for the first time this year.
AAA's VIA magazine events calendar lists a basketful of events in Northern California, Nevada and Utah (also online at www.aaa.com).
