Truck Classic Again Scheduled for Labor Day Weekend

    DUBUQUE, Iowa--May 13, 1999--The Ridge Roads Truck Classic will roll again September 4-6. The Labor Day weekend tour of northeast Iowa celebrates the significance of the motor truck to our states' heritage. The event is open to all sizes and types of trucks. Everything from pickups to stake trucks to tank trucks to grain haulers are eligible... provided they are at least 25 years old, in sound mechanical condition and look good. The event is sponsored by Northeast Iowa Community College, the Country Heritage Tourism Region of Allamakee, Clayton, Fayette and Winneshiek counties, and MotorMemories, Inc., organizers of the annual MotorIoway tour.
    This years tour will start and finish in Dubuque with an overnight stay in Decorah. The itinerary includes a morning stop in Guttenberg, lunch and parade in McGregor, and an afternoon stop in Postville, before finishing the day in Decorah. On Sunday the group will return to Dubuque via Backbone State Park. The event will close on Monday with the group participating in the late morning Labor Day parade through Dubuque. Participation in The Ridge Roads Truck Classic is limited to 75 vehicles. Those interested in participating must submit an application form accompanied by a $25 non-refundable fee. The applications are reviewed and the final list of participants is by invitation only. The additional cost at the time of invitation is $100 for a total fee of $125 if selected to participate. Participants from any of the three previous MotorIoway tours may drive in this event. However these will be the only non-trucks allowed to accompany the tour.
    The Application fee covers two people and includes commemorative license plate, credentials, door decals, tour log, plus emergency road assistance and special evening events. Additional passengers beyond the two covered in the fee are welcome at an additional $25.00 per person. Lodging at group rates will be available in Dubuque and Decorah.

    98 MotorIoway Tour on Iowa Public TV

    Iowa Public Television will broadcast a half-hour feature on the 1998 MotorIoway vintage vehicle tour. It will air Friday, May 21, at 8:30 p.m. on "Living in Iowa". The program will be repeated at 7:30 p.m. on Sunday, May 23.
    Chris Gourley, Iowa Affairs Producer of IPT and his assistant Steve Karns accompanied the nearly 200 pre-1975 cars and trucks on their week long tour of southeastern Iowa last October. From 52 hours of raw footage he has produced a 30 minute package. Special music has also been developed to enhance the production. Chris announced that copies of the video production will be available at an estimated price of $25 per copy. Information on how to order copies will be given at the conclusion of the broadcast.
