Corsa Woman Championship

25 May 1999

1999 is the first year of the Brazilian Woman Corsa Championship.

Created by Maria Helena Fittipaldi and Ricardo Albuquerque, this series
organized by Ampacom, uses the 1.6 liter Corsa (the smallest car from GM in
Brazil).

In the first race in Interlagos, with 12 drivers and more than 5.000
people on the grandstands, Maria Cristina Rosito was the woman to beat.
She was fastest in all practices, in qualifying and won the race. Mara
Feltre made a great race and finished second. She was the only one to
keep Rosito within a normal distance.
Mara Feltre made also the fastest lap in the race. Andrea Klotz finished
third driving very well. Christina Moreira, Peggy Bauer and Juliana
Carreira promised a great fight with Klotz for the podium, but this
three woman had accidents and problems during the race and didn't
finished.

Patricia Vega, even starting 11th on the grid, finished in a good 4th
position.

Patricia de Sabrit (she was Tony Kanaan's girlfriend) made a nice race
but finished 8th and her lap time was nearly 7 seconds per lap slower
than Rosito and Feltre.

All cars are equal and you can only adjust some minor settings like
suspension, packers...

Congratulations to Maria Helena Fittipaldi for the excelent idea and for
her dedication to fight against the hard times in Brazil.
