Southern California Regional Occupational Center Salutes General Motors' Involvement

General Motors was honored by the Southern California Regional Occupational Center (SCROC) for its support at the seventh annual awards banquet held on May 8 in Torrance, Calif.
As a Technology Education Foundation, SCROC is recognized as a provider of a top-quality automotive technical education to students interested in an automotive service career.
"General Motors is proud to sponsor SCROC because we recognize the importance of skilled, well-trained technicians as key to service supremacy in our dealership facilities," said John Stadwick, Western regional service manager, General Motors Vehicle Sales, Service and Marketing. Stadwick added, "Students considering a career in automotive services need the guidance of a first-class educational institution given the high degree of complexity in today's sophisticated automotive systems. SCROC provides that opportunity."
Additionally, General Motors was instrumental in bringing Automotive Youth Educational Systems (AYES) to SCROC. AYES is a partnership among participating automotive manufacturers, dealers and selected high schools and vocational schools. Through its dealerships and school partners, AYES strives to enhance the public image of dealerships and dealership careers, assist students in developing the kinds of skills employers seek, and foster positive working environments in dealerships. SCROC is one of only 103 schools nationwide that have been invited to join AYES to date.
Stadwick noted, "Through internships at participating GM dealerships, AYES students develop both their technical skills and their skills as valuable employees. Upon high school graduation and AYES certification, participating students are prepared to begin full-time entry-level employment. If they wish to advance in their technical education at the college level, General Motors offers the Automotive Service Excellence Program (ASEP), available at Cerritos College and 60 other colleges across the country."
