TH!NK & Hertz Offer Unique Morwegian Experience
15 June 1999
OSLO, Norway -- When customers lease a new TH!NK electric city car in Norway beginning later this year, the car will be delivered to customers by Hertz. TH!NK Nordic AS and Hertz Norway announced today that Hertz will serve as the distribution network for TH!NK. This allows TH!NK Nordic to utilize an already existing infrastructure rather than building a new one. "We know customers will have a unique, exciting driving experience with TH!NK and we want to make certain the leasing and service experience is equally positive," said Per Lilleng, President of TH!NK Nordic AS. "Customers will have one single number to call which gives access to a convenient package of leasing, distribution and service. This customer-driven approach is something completely new to the automotive industry." TH!NK customers will have their car delivered by Hertz right to their home or business. In addition, when the vehicle needs service, Hertz will pick up the car and supply a replacement vehicle for the day. "We're making the process as easy and convenient as possible," said Lilleng. "Because they receive a replacement vehicle, customers will never be without a car." In addition, the availability of a large choice of vehicles at Hertz helps fulfill TH!NK's philosophy of offering tailor made vehicles for different customer demands. "We know a two-seat car can't always meet a driver's needs, such as at family vacation time," said Petter Hagen, General Manager Hertz Norway. "We hope that knowing they can make use of a larger vehicle when needed will give customers greater flexibility." TH!NK customers will be offered special rates for rentals of larger vehicles through Hertz. The process of leasing a TH!NK will be seamless to customers. All Hertz staff will be "branded" in TH!NK apparel when they deliver their services to TH!NK customers. Hertz will also offer TH!NK cars as a daily rental at a very attractive price, and will include TH!NK as an offer in the Hertz leasing division. "This way interested customers can test the vehicle, or travelers can choose an alternative type of vehicle," said Lilleng. TH!NK is made of corrosion-free, matte-finish thermoplastic and measures 2991 mm in length. It has an aluminum space frame that provides overall strength for the car and enables it to meet European safety standards. The car has a top speed of 90 km/h and a real-world range of about 85 km between charges. TH!NK is ideal for urban driving where average speed and daily driving distances are low. The power is stored in nickel cadmium batteries with an estimated 10 year life, and are recharged easily in domestic electrical outlets. With fewer parts per vehicle than conventional automobiles, design phases are shorter and manufacturing is simpler. Recycling is also made easier due to the easy assembling method. "We expect that TH!NK's simple design will be a plus for customers," added Lilleng. "With fewer parts, there should be reduced maintenance needs." TH!NK will be produced at the TH!NK Nordic AS plant in Aurskog-Holand, 50 km east of Oslo, the capital of Norway. TH!NK is an enterprise of Ford Motor Company.
