CarMax Acquires Nissan New-Car Store In the Wash/Balt

18 June 1999

RICHMOND, Va. -- The CarMax subsidiary of Circuit City Stores, Inc.
announced today that it has acquired the Nissan franchise rights held by
Town & Country Pontiac Nissan, Inc. in Perryhall, Md., and has added the
franchise to its CarMax Auto Superstore in White Marsh, Md.

The CarMax Auto Superstore is located at 10201 Philadelphia Road, across
from the White Marsh Mall. In addition to its extensive selection of used
cars, CarMax at White Marsh is selling the complete family of new Nissan cars,
trucks and SUVs beginning today.

"The success we have enjoyed since opening the White Marsh location
clearly indicates that consumers like the quality and depth of our selection;
our low, no-haggle prices; and the guaranteed satisfaction we provide," said
W. Austin Ligon, president of CarMax. "We are delighted to expand this
consumer offer with the addition of new Nissan vehicles."

The Washington/Baltimore market is one of CarMax's most successful
markets. In addition to the White Marsh location, CarMax operates a
superstore at U.S. Route 1 just north of Laurel, Md. That store sells
CarMax's extensive selection of used cars as well as a full line of new
Mitsubishi vehicles. It is the nation's largest used-car retail location.
CarMax also operates a Toyota franchise at 3516 Ft. Meade Road just off Route
1 in Laurel; another superstore, on State Route 28, midway between the Dulles
Toll Road and Highway 7, in Sterling, Va., that sells used cars and new
Mitsubishi vehicles; and a fourth used-car superstore at 15931 Frederick Road,
one and one-half miles south of Shady Grove Road, in Rockville, Md.

CarMax currently operates two Nissan franchises: one at the CarMax Auto
Mall, a nine-franchise auto mall and used-car superstore in Kenosha, Wis.,
halfway between Chicago and Milwaukee; and a second one at its Greenville,
S.C., superstore. With the addition of the White Marsh Nissan franchise,
CarMax operates 21 new-car franchises. In 1998, the CarMax Auto Superstore in
Norcross, Ga., was the leading Chrysler-Plymouth dealer in the U.S. CarMax's
two Atlanta-market Chrysler franchises carry the Five Star rating,
DaimlerChrysler Corporation's highest award for customer service excellence,
and both rank among the nation's top 100 Five Star dealers.

CarMax, a subsidiary of Circuit City Stores, Inc., pioneered the used-car
superstore concept and currently operates 35 locations. Including the new
Nissan franchise, CarMax operates 30 used-car superstores and 21 new-car
franchises. Circuit City Stores, Inc. is a leading national retailer of
brand-name consumer electronics, personal computers, major appliances and
entertainment software.
