Volvo Announces Prices of S40 and V40

ROCKLEIGH, NJ – The Volvo S40 sedan will have a base price of $22,900
while the Volvo V40 wagon will start at $23,900 when the cars go on sale
in the United States on September 1, 1999.

These cars are equipped nicely and safely, as Volvo owners expect.
Standard equipment on the S40 and V40 includes:

Dual front air bags
Volvo’s patented Side Impact Protection System including dual side air
bags
Volvo’s unique Whiplash Protection System
Fully automatic ECC (Electronic Climate Control)
A built-in cabin filter that helps minimize the amount of dust, pollen
and particles in the passenger compartment
Home Safe Lighting which lights the path outside the car for 30 seconds
after leaving the car
Power windows and door locks
Automatic Transmission
Aluminum alloy wheels
Three-point seat belts and Volvo’s award-winning head restraints on all
five seats

“Our aim is to attack the high volume cars in the compact segment. With
this pricing strategy, our cars will attract younger people who have
never owned a Volvo before because they thought they couldn’t afford it,
plus some of all the previous Volvo owners who have been waiting for a
lower price level than we have been able to offer them in recent years,”
explains Hans-Olov Olsson, President and CEO of Volvo Cars of North
America, Inc.
