Freudenberg Nonwovens Says Keep the Air Inside Your Car Clean: Change Your Cabin Air FilterDETROIT, July 13 -- Studies show that the air inside your car may be ten times more polluted than the air outside. But many newer cars have a solution to this problem: an air filter that cleans vehicle cabin air, much in the same way a filter cleans air going into the engine. Many newer models have built-in cabin air filters that trap many contaminants before they enter the vehicle. Some filters can even stop odors. This can be a real benefit to allergy sufferers or people sensitive to dust and other particulates. According to the Automotive Oil Change Association, a trade association of fast lube service professionals, and Freudenberg Nonwovens, suppliers of cabin air filters to auto manufacturers, more vehicles than ever now have cabin air filtration. Most European cars feature cabin air filters, and the number of American- made vehicles with the filters has tripled in the last five years. Among popular makes with cabin air filters are the Ford Taurus and Windstar, the Honda Accord, the Chevrolet Monte Carlo, and the Buick Regal. Filters should be changed approximately once a year for best performance. However, since most people in the U.S. have never before owned a car with cabin air filtration, they may not realize this is an important service task. "The contaminants that the filters trap eventually build up and block some air flow. That can cause the air conditioning or heating to work harder," said Mitch Sanner of Freudenberg Nonwovens. "A simple filter change can keep the system operating at top performance." Filters can be easily serviced by auto dealers or many fast lube service centers. For many vehicles, the filter change takes only a matter of minutes. Cost is minimal. Ask your dealer or fast lube service center to check for cabin air filter performance at your next regular service interval.
