Volvo S80 T-6 Named Ideal Consumer Vehicle by Auto Club

    ROCKLEIGH, N.J., Aug. 12 -- The Volvo S80 T-6 has been named
an Ideal Consumer Vehicle by the Automobile Club of Southern California.
    The Auto Club's Automotive Research Center evaluated 56 cars and trucks to
determine which ones come closest to the target Southern Californian vehicle
as described by Auto Club members ... Factors include brake stopping
distances, ride quality, crashworthiness potential, handling and fuel economy.
    "This year's top selections clearly indicate consumers want quality and
safety in their vehicles," observes Steve Mazor, principal automotive engineer
with the Auto Club.
    Since its introduction in October 1998, the S80 has received a variety of
awards including National Highway Transportation Safety Association's Highest
SINCAP rating, The Auto Channel's Best Overall Car-of-the-Year Golden
Tachometer Award, AutoPacific's 1999 Vehicle Satisfaction Award, Strategic
Vision's Total Quality Award, the European Design Award, the Automobile
Journalists Association of Canada's Best New Prestige Car Award, Inside
Automotives International's Automotive Interior of the Year, and Australia's
National Roads and Motorist Association's Luxury Car of the Year.
