Traveling With Kids: What Every Parent Should Know; Kid Tips Magazine to Debut in Jiffy Lube Locations Across U.S.

HOUSTON--Aug. 16, 1999--For families with children, travel can be fun but not without real challenges. Whether the trip is by plane, train or automobile, taking kids out of their usual routines is often stressful. To address these concerns and offer useful advice, Jiffy Lube unveiled its first consumer magazine Kid Tips(R) on August 15.
Kid Tips(R) Magazine, now available at the more than 1,900 Jiffy Lube locations across the nation, is a free special-edition magazine that also addresses issues of pressing importance to parents, grandparents and caregivers in search of expert guidance to maintain the physical and mental well-being of their children. Topics include "How to Help Your Child Following a Traumatic Event," "Raising Children with Good Character," and "Thinking Like an Entrepreneur Can be Good for Your Child."
The magazine is published by Marianne Szymanski, founder and president of Toy Tips Inc., an international consulting firm that conducts ongoing scientific research on the toy industry. A national toy and child research expert, Marianne is the resident toy expert on ABC's "Good Morning America."
Magazine content also includes information about how to avoid auto-related child injury and death, common ways kids are abducted from automobiles and how to avoid it, travel toys for kids in the car and tips for upcoming holiday toy shopping.
The advice in Kid Tips(R) Magazine comes from several of the nation's leading experts in child and family issues. Featured are such authorities as Szymanski; Dr. Marvin Berkowitz, psychologist and director of The Toy Research Institute; Kenneth Wooden, noted child and family safety expert; Dr. William Winslade, author of "Confronting Traumatic Brain Injury;" Cheri Riehle, OTR, an occupation therapist and director of Project P.L.A.Y.; Kathleen Allen, Ph.D., an authority in the field of entrepreneurship; and Dr. Lillian Carson, an authority on child development, parenting and grandparenting.
Additional magazine highlights include a look at America's Promise, founded and chaired by retired Army General Colin Powell; and maintenance and safety tips for the family car from Jiffy Lube's own Lucille Treganowan, America's most trusted mechanic.
"There are just as many kids riding in cars as adults and one of our responsibilities as a company needs to be with the safety of the passengers in the cars we service. Children are especially vulnerable, so Kid Tips(R) Magazine demonstrates our commitment to provide families a safer and more enjoyable experience in their cars," said Jiffy Lube President Marc C. Graham. "This magazine will offer vital information on how to keep kids safe and entertained while traveling."
This special edition is co-sponsored by J.C. Penney.com. For more information about Kid Tips(R) Magazine, visit http://www.toytips.com.
