Liberty Mutual Cuts Connecticut Auto Insurance Rates; Latest Filing Brings Total Overall Average Rate Reduction to More than 10 Percent Since January 1998

    BOSTON--Oct. 4, 1999--Liberty Mutual Group announced today that the Connecticut Department of Insurance has approved the company's filing to reduce its auto rates in the state by an average of 4.3 percent, effective immediately. This latest decrease brings the company's total overall average rate reduction to nearly 11 percent since January 1998.
    The company expects that certain policyholders will realize even greater savings through a combination of enhanced discounts and rate reductions.
    "We've cut our Connecticut auto insurance rates again because this state continues to be a very important market for us," said James Masterson, Regional Vice-President for Liberty Mutual's New England personal insurance operations. "Liberty Mutual opened its first Connecticut office in 1918, and we've been committed to providing residents with the best combination of value and price ever since," he said.
    In addition to saving through the latest rate reductions, Liberty Mutual's Connecticut auto insurance customers also can save through a number of discounts, including multi-car, anti-theft device or airbag discounts. Connecticut customers can realize additional savings by insuring their homes with Liberty Mutual.
    More than 115 Connecticut employers and associations subscribe to Liberty Mutual's Group Savings Plus(R) program, which provides employees or association members with auto, home and other personal insurance at discounted group rates and with convenient payment options.
    Other benefits to Liberty Mutual's Connecticut customers include eight drive-in claims facilities throughout the state and an 800 customer-service number available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. In addition, Liberty Mutual customers whose cars become disabled may call an 800 number to reach the company's Roadside Assistance program, which offers 24-hour service anywhere in the United States. The service is available to all Liberty Mutual auto customers.
