Delphi Products Help Pontiac Create the 2000 Bonneville Driving Experience
TROY, Mich., Oct. 12 -- Delphi Automotive Systems
helped Pontiac create the 2000 Bonneville, building off a philosophy that
takes "luxury with attitude" to a new level. The 2000 Bonneville hit showroom
floors this month, sporting a range of Delphi products that give drivers the
right tools to control their driving experience.
Redesigned from the ground up, Bonneville features all-new architecture
with significant enhancements in design, engineering and technology. It is
truly a different kind of luxury sports sedan -- the latest expression of
driving excitement that meets the very specific demands of drivers.
"The concept of luxury has evolved dramatically in the past decade, with a
new emphasis on active, driver-oriented features," said Mary Boland,
Bonneville Brand Manager. "Pontiac has focused a good part of that emphasis
on creating, with the help of Delphi and other key supplier partners, the most
adaptive, personalized interior in Bonneville's competitive set."
"We are extremely proud to support Pontiac with many of the elements of
the 2000 Bonneville interior, from the instrument panel and steering wheel to
climate control and advanced electronics," said Rodney O'Neal, vice president
of Delphi Automotive Systems and president of Delphi Interior Systems.
Delphi's technologies contributing to the 2000 Bonneville "driver command
center" include:
Remote Keyless Entry with Advanced Personalization. Using the two
provided key fobs, this available Bonneville feature recognizes and recalls,
upon the driver's entry, the individual's radio station presets, equalizer
setting, climate control settings, driver's seat position, exterior mirror
adjustments as well as selections for perimeter lighting and automatic power
door locks operation.
Climate Control System. This system features highly efficient fluidic
outlets to enhance airflow in all conditions. The SLE and SSEi models include
dual-zone heating and cooling, as well as a built-in filtration system that
filters incoming air, removing pollen and other fine particles.
Delco 100-Series Audio Systems. A range of high-performance Delco audio
systems provides drivers with the technology of the Radio Data System (RDS).
RDS is a new technology that enables radios to scan for music based on station
format and can also interrupt any programming to broadcast traffic, weather or
emergency information. Steering wheel radio controls are standard on SLE and
SSEi models.
Head-Up Display. Uses aerospace technology to project vital information
onto the windshield just below the driver's main field of vision so the
driver's eyes can stay on the road where they belong. The display includes
speedometer, turn signal, high beam, check gauges, low fuel, radio frequency
and play-back mode.
All of these technologies come together in the instrument panel, for which
Delphi engineers developed a unique Thermo Polyolefin (TPO) Skin on both the
upper and lower panels that allows for improved esthetics, including a "hidden
airbag" (no seam lines), with a soft leather-like feel and excellent
durability. This is the first and only full soft TPO instrument panel
available in North America and the only one with an airbag deployable TPO top
pad. The material is 100% recyclable both in the manufacturing stage and at
the end of the vehicle lifecycle.
Pontiac, with headquarters in Detroit, Mich., markets some of General
Motors' most exciting and high performance cars such as the fun and sporty
Sunfire, volume-leading Grand Am, wide track Grand Prix, Montana minivan and
Firebird sports car, in addition to its flagship, the all-new 2000 Bonneville.
Pontiac expects to sell approximately 80,000 Bonnevilles during the 2000
calendar year.
Delphi Automotive Systems, with headquarters in Troy, Mich., USA, is a
