Do-It-Yourselfers Prefer Car Care Gift Certificates This Holiday Season

PHILADELPHIA--Nov. 8, 1999--In a recent national survey of 600 vehicle owners who work on their cars, over 70 percent said they'd prefer a gift certificate to an automotive store to any other item this upcoming holiday season.
The survey, conducted by Issues and Answers of Virginia Beach, Va. for Pep Boys, showed that gift certificates for car care needs were preferred more than five times than the second ranked gift, an exercise machine.
"I made my holiday shopping easy this year," noted C. Van Tune, Editor-In-Chief for Motor Trend Magazine. "Pep Boys gift certificates for the staff, plus a new car cover for my vintage Corvette, some new tools and a line of premium waxes for me."
"Gift certificates make great presents," says Bill Furtkevic, Director of Marketing Communications for Pep Boys. "And with industry statistics showing that the majority of Do It Yourselfers spending between $100 and $500 annually on auto parts and accessories, they're a great way to help save some money, too."
Gift certificates of various denominations are available at more than 650 Pep Boys locations in 37 states and Puerto Rico. Pep Boys is the nation's leading automotive retail and service chain. Customers can find the nearest location by dialing 1-800-PEP-BOYS or visiting Pep Boys on the Internet at pepboys.com.
