Vons/Pavilions has 31 Ways to Make the Holiday Season Even More Special; Grocery Company Teams Up With Volvo to Give A Car Away Each Day of December

LOS ANGELES--Dec. 1, 1999--Wanting to make this holiday season even brighter for shoppers, Vons/Pavilions announced today that the company will give away a Volvo a day during the month of December, just for shopping at any Vons or Pavilions store.
"During this holiday season, we're going to make each day even more special for our customers," said Rick Dreiling, president of Vons. "Now, in addition to the extraordinary values in our stores, customers will have an opportunity to win a Volvo each day in December, just for shopping at our stores."
To win a new Volvo, customers need only to swipe their VonsClub or PavilionsPlus value card while shopping. Each time a customer shops, they will automatically entered to win. Winners will be announced in Vons and Pavilions stores each week. Prizes being awarded include 31 Volvo S40 Sedans and one grand prize Volvo V70 GLT Wagon. Specific details about this special holiday giveaway are available in any Southern California or Nevada Vons or Pavilions store.
Vons is a division of Safeway Inc., one of the largest food and drug retailers in North America. The VonsClub and PavilionsPlus savings card program was started in 1988, with millions of members in Southern California and Nevada. Each week, through the savings program, customers are offered discounts on thousands of store items, with average savings reaching 18%. Since its inception, the savings card program has rewarded its members over $45 million in savings awards and prizes, even making two members millionaires.
Additionally, members of VonsClub and PavilionsPlus can now sign-up to have up to 4% of their purchases donated to the school or non-profit organizations that help children through a new program called eScrip. Customers pay an annual fee to participate in the program, which includes other major retailers such as American Airlines, Budget, Choice Hotels, Eddie Bauer, and Payless Shoes, to name a few. Then, each time a customer shops at any of the participating retailers, a portion of that purchase will be donated to help our schools and communities. Vons and Safeway is committing at least $15 million in donations to California and Nevada schools this year.
